IT'S NOT A SHOPPING PROBLEM

Most people I meet don't have a shopping problem. They have a "what do I wear" problem — a closet full of perfectly good clothes and no clear way to put them together on a Tuesday morning with fifteen minutes to spare.

That's what a personal stylist is actually for. Not to hand you a new wardrobe and a bill, but to make the one you have work, fill the gaps that are genuinely missing, and leave you with a system you can use without me standing there.

I'm Janel Alexander, a personal stylist based in Greenwich, Connecticut, working with men and women across Fairfield and Westchester counties and virtually anywhere. I spent years in the fashion industry as a fit specialist - the person who makes sure a garment actually works on a real body - before building this practice. I've also served as Style Editor for Moffly Media. In that time I've learned that great personal style has far less to do with trends than with knowing what works on you and having a plan for the life you actually lead.

How I work

My work is built on three steps of the process, and they happen in order.

Edit. We go through your closet together — honestly, and without judgment. What fits, what works, what's been hanging there unworn for three years. We catalog what's staying so you can actually see what you own.

Shop. This is where I work differently from most stylists. Rather than walking you through a few local stores and hoping they have your size, I pull from a wide range of retailers and bring everything to my private Greenwich studio. You try on a curated selection chosen for you, in one place, without the fluorescent lighting and the guesswork. Tailoring and returns are handled.

Style. We build the looks and photograph them into a custom digital lookbook. This is the step most people skip, and it's the one that makes everything else stick — because an organized closet still leaves you wondering what to wear. A lookbook doesn't.

All three together are what I call a full wardrobe refresh, and it's where every client begins. There's a reason for that: I can't build you a workable wardrobe until I know what's already in your closet, and I can't build outfits from pieces I've never seen. Once that foundation exists, everything after it is faster and easier.

Where to start

Full Wardrobe Refresh — All three steps, start to finish. This is the starting point for every client, and the right first move if your closet hasn't been properly addressed in years.

Menswear Styling — The same process, for men. Edit, shop and style, built around work, travel, weekends and the occasions that need more. Most of my male clients came to me because getting dressed had become one more thing to manage — this takes it off the list.

Once your foundation is built

These are for existing clients who've completed a full refresh. They pick up where it left off, which is why they're quicker and more focused.

Seasonal Refresh — Your wardrobe brought forward each season. We shop for what the new season needs, integrate it with what you already own, and update your looks. No re-editing a closet we've already sorted out.

Lookbooks — A fashion stylist in your back pocket. New custom digital outfit boards built from your existing wardrobe and organized around your calendar, so getting dressed becomes a decision you've already made.

Working remotely

Online Styling — Virtual styling for clients outside the tri-state area, or anyone who'd rather do this from their own closet on a screen.

Not sure where to start?

Most clients aren't when we first speak. Tell me what's frustrating you about getting dressed and I'll tell you honestly which service fits.
